Scheduling courses at REAC is essential so that the workers in our association do their jobs in the most qualified way possible. Today we look at the most basic training: level 1.
In a sector like ours, training with the best is almost an obligation. Roadside assistance companies provide an essential service that also involves very serious safety requirements. Unfortunately, we can never stop talking about the situations that endanger the life of each professional; and in this respect, all of us—roadside assistance operators, affected drivers and drivers in general—must know how to proceed.
Courses for newcomers to the sector: Level 1 Operator
A self-employed operator with a car transporter tow truck who is unfamiliar with the regulations on roadside assistance vehicles and works with light and medium vehicles must start the job with the most precise knowledge of what they will find when they receive their first assistance call.
Training levels determine qualification and are based on an operating framework that sets out tasks, equipment, content and hours. What would the operating framework for the level 1 operator be?
- Tasks consisting of transporting light vehicles (not exceeding 3,500 kilograms), on-the-spot interventions for minor vehicle faults (wheel changes, jump-starting the vehicle, opening the vehicle without forcing it), recorded in the procedures.
- Use of visual equipment (goggles), platform equipment, trailers, equipment accessories and add-ons.
- Use of trailers for transporting vehicles, handling of equipment accessories and add-ons.
Level 1 training content
The content is strongly geared towards teaching trainees the preventive measures they must take in their job to avoid risks. But it is also about training the roadside assistance operator in Road Safety.
Interference with third parties, working procedures, hygiene and ergonomic measures, as well as personal protective equipment (PPE, so prominent since the COVID-19 epidemic began) also make up the course syllabus.
Last (but not least), issues such as basic emergencies and basic first aid are covered. This training, which REAC provides for its member companies, lasts 10 hours.
