The V-23 sign is essential to alert other drivers to the presence of a roadside assistance vehicle.

From 22 December 2024, all heavy vehicles included in the Registro Estatal de Auxilio en Vías Públicas (REAV) must be fitted with the V-23 reflective sign, as established in Royal Decree 159/2021. This measure, deriving from the legal framework contained in Royal Legislative Decree 6/2015, seeks to improve road safety and guarantee optimum conditions in the provision of assistance services on public roads.

The V-23 sign, like the V-2, is essential to alert other drivers to the presence and nature of roadside assistance vehicles, thus helping to prevent accidents and improve safety for all road users.

Royal Decree 1030/2022, published in December 2022, set a two-year deadline for roadside assistance operators to comply with the obligation to fit their vehicles with the V-2 and V-23 signs, in accordance with the provisions of the roadside assistance regulation. Operators therefore have until 22 December 2024 to adapt the signage on their vehicles and meet the legal requirements.

If you have not yet fitted the V-23 sign to your fleet of roadside assistance vehicles, here is how it must be positioned:

This measure represents an important step in improving road safety and reinforces the authorities' commitment to protecting road users. It will also help to ensure that roadside assistance services work better, providing greater visibility and making it easier to identify vehicles providing assistance in emergencies.
