The roadside assistance companies that are part of REAC are particularly active. Such is the case of Grúas Apalategi, which channels its sponsorship into a sport that arouses great passion in the Basque Country.
At the Red de Empresas de Auxilio en Carretera (REAC) we are delighted to share all the initiatives our members are involved in. If we recently talked about the campaign launched by Grúas La Bruja, this week it is the turn of Grúas Apalategi, a company headquartered in Biscay.
This time, the story involves sponsorship and a sport with a large following in the Basque Country. We are talking about hill climbs or rallies which, held in the various Basque provinces and districts, form part of a calendar of events supervised by the Basque Motor Sport Federation (Euskadiko Automobilismo Federazioa).
Rallies, rallysprints and hill races feature different teams and highly specialised drivers. As a sponsor, Grúas Apalategi has long been very familiar with this world. Especially with the events held in Biscay and Gipuzkoa, where the company carries out its roadside assistance and automotive services.
Driver sponsorship

It is precisely one of the company's branches, its repair workshop, that drives its participation in these sporting events. For some years now, Grúas Apalategi has sponsored the brothers David and Pablo Peláez, who compete in a Citroën AX, a vehicle highly prized in this type of event. As it happens, the co-driver, Pablo, is an employee of Autoreparaciones Apalategi.
The manager of the REAC member company, Mikel Arrizabalaga, explained that Grúas Apalategi supports these drivers logistically, also covering all the mechanical needs of the vehicle they race in. They are likewise on hand to provide a tow-truck service to the drivers they sponsor if needed.
"This year, with COVID-19, many hill climbs have been cancelled because spectators were not allowed", explains Arrizabalaga, referring to how the number of events has fallen considerably during the pandemic. Something that, we hope, will change as the vaccination campaign progresses.
