060 telephone, a number for your dealings with the DGT

man making a phone call

In 2006 the General State Administration made available to us a number, not free of charge, for carrying out various procedures relating to public services and Administration formalities.

The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) is one of the bodies that can be contacted using this telephone number. The 060 number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the automated service. To be attended by a specialised agent (that is, a person), you have to call within set hours: Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 19:00, and Saturday, from 9:00 to 14:00, with reduced hours in summer, from 9:00 to 15:00 on working days. At Christmas, on the 24th and 31st, the service runs from 9:00 to 14:00.

In principle, the Administration states that the maximum price of a call to 060 is set by our telephone operator, “the cost from a landline being the same as a national call and from a mobile phone, that of a call from a mobile to a national landline number”. Although ideally, if in doubt, we should check with our provider to clarify the cost, as it may not be included in our calls and internet contract, or may be billed as a short-code number.

  • Paying fines: before calling we should have to hand the date of notification, the case number and the credit or debit card we are going to pay with; as it is an Administration number, it is a very secure process. We will receive a notification of the payment.
  • Changing the vehicle's registered address: in this case we will have to call during the hours with a specialised agent, so that they can make the change, which will generate a receipt as a record of the procedure.
  • Changing the address on the licence, needed so that the DGT has a postal address to contact us by letter or notification.
Duplicate licence, in the event of loss or theft of the driving licence. First call 060, and then pay the fee of 20.40 euros, having first downloaded Form 791 from the DGT website.
  • Requesting an appointment at the Provincial Traffic Headquarters or offices.
  • Requesting a paper duplicate of the electronic Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV) record, as well as a vehicle report. Subject to payment of the fee, 8.5 euros in both cases.
  • Filing complaints about public services or civil servants, including those of the DGT. It is important to be given a reference number in order to follow up the complaint.
