Guide to Training Levels: From Novice Operator to High Qualification (Level 3)

In the roadside assistance sector, improvisation is public enemy number one for profitability and safety. Not all jobs are the same, and therefore not all operators should face the same challenges without the right preparation.

At REAC, we have designed a technical training pathway that ensures every professional is equal to the scenario they encounter on the road. This is our roadmap to operational excellence.

Level 1: The Entry-Level Operator (Transport and Basic Handling)

This is the gateway to the profession. This level is aimed at newly recruited operators or those whose activity focuses on light vehicle logistics.

  • Scope: Transport operations only, for vehicles of up to 3,500 kg.

  • Key skills: Operating standard platforms and basic road safety protocols.

  • On-site Interventions: Carrying out small repairs or fixing minor faults in accordance with the registered procedures.

  • Objective: To guarantee a fast and safe service for the most common day-to-day assistance jobs.

Level 2: The Qualified Operator (Recovery and Lifting)

Here we take a qualitative leap. Level 2 is for experienced professionals who have to deal with situations in which the vehicle is not simply "stopped on the hard shoulder".

  • Scope: Complex recoveries on the same level and across different levels with negative gradients (drops that are not vertical).

  • Key skills: Expert operation and lifting of loads using a self-loading crane truck.

  • The differentiating factor: The ability to make technical decisions about load lashing and stability in hard-to-reach situations.

Level 3: High-Qualification Operator (Critical Rescue)

This is the elite of roadside assistance. Level 3 is reserved for operators with extensive experience and proven technical knowledge in scenarios of maximum complexity.

  • Vertical drop rescue: Recovery of light vehicles from vertical drops using a self-loading crane truck.

  • Heavy and oversized vehicles: Handling rollovers and partial rollovers, including vehicles that exceed standard dimensions.

  • Dangerous Goods (ADR): Recovery of vehicles classified under the ADR framework, applying strict chemical and environmental safety protocols.

Why is this distinction vital for your company?

REAC's level-based training is not just a qualification; it is a risk management tool:

  1. Operational efficiency: You assign the right person to the right job. You prevent a Level 1 operator from being overwhelmed by a risky situation, and a Level 3 operator from wasting time on basic jobs.

  2. Legal certainty: In the event of an accident, being able to prove that the operator held the specific certification for that complex manoeuvre is invaluable backing.

  3. Cost reduction: A well-trained operator breaks less equipment, causes less damage to customers' vehicles and optimises rescue times.

Free training for REAC members

The complexity of modern vehicles and road safety regulations demands constant updating. At REAC, we offer this training completely free of charge because we believe that the strength of our Network depends on the training of each of its members.
